NLS8 is approximately 10 months away, that gives you (and us!) ten more months to prepare for the best New Librarians’ Symposium yet! The NLS committee team have a big list of “to do’s” we need to take care of – but what about you? Here are a few things we think you should keep in mind before heading out to Canberra in June for the big event.

  1. Call for proposals are still open! We’ve extended the deadline for submission, which means if you knuckle down you can submit your proposal by the 5th of September. If you’re still a little unsure about what a proposal is or you’re a little nervous about being a conference speaker never fear! Take a look at some tips from one of our Speak Up panelists from Brisbane, Sam Searle.
  2. Burn the dates in your mind. Say this date out loud: 23rd June – 25th June, 2017. Repeat. Are there any personal events conflicting with those dates? Good! Come to Canberra!
  3. Save your dollar bills. For those of us not lucky enough to live in near the beautiful National Library of Australia this means: plane tickets, accommodation, food & fun allowance, and most importantly registration fee. We’re working hard behind the scenes to try and make this conference as accessible for everyone  – so keep an eye out for bursaries and applications for volunteers coming soon! In the meantime, put aside some money every week and book your plane tickets early!

Is there anything else on your to-do list for NLS8 or do you have any questions? Let us know!

  1. Excellent news about the volunteering! Being the resident volunteer junkie that I am (EBLIP8, Brisbane 2015 and ALIA, Adelaide 2016) i would love to add NLS8, Canberra 2017 to my repertoire!!!

Very excited about this one! Have commenced knitting in anticipation of the colder climates too 🙂

    Cheers
